Theatre Addendum - Beginning and Intermediate Theatre
Welcome to the Theatre Program at South Jordan Middle School. You are about to begin the exciting adventure of learning the basic elements of theatre. We will explore creativity, emotion, observation, concentration, characterization, and more. This is a performance class so be prepared to spend a lot of time on the stage.
How can you be successful in theatre?
Be on the PROWL
- Prepared – Come prepared each day for all assignments and performances. Bring a notebook and your pen or pencil every day.
- Respectful – Be polite to the teacher and all students. Audience behavior affects participation and citizenship grades. Show respect in the kiva by following kiva rules i.e. no food drink or gum, no horseplay.
- On time – Be in the kiva when the bell rings. Show up on time to all rehearsals.
- Winning Attitude – Come with an open mind about trying new things. Be willing to work with and include everyone in the class.
- Listens and Learns – Listen to the teacher. Always do your best work.
Grading
Your grade will be based on the following categories:
- 70% - Class work: performances, tests, quizzes, written work, and attendance at rehearsals.
- 20% - Participation: attitude, audience behavior.
- 10% - Play Report: attend or read and report on two plays per quarter.
Late Work Grading
Late assignments will be reduced by 10% per day with a 50% minimum credit.
Citizenship Grading
All students will start with an “S” and then move up or down according to the Citizenship Rubric.
Performance
Each semester as part of the class curriculum students will perform in a play. It is very important for students to attend rehearsals and the final performance. If a student has an emergency or illness, please notify Mrs. Robinson for a make-up assignment.
Extra Help
I am available for extra help before school if needed. Please see me for an appointment.
Extra Credit
Extra Credit assignments are offered several times throughout the quarter.
